Well, Hello Games, you’ve done it again, after I swore that I was done with you and your lies of better gaming the first time you broke my heart. You got me all jazzed up and excited about your ‘Foundation’ update that was supposed to change the game completely, and less than 10 minutes in, I’m overly irritated, and massively underwhelmed. Way to crush hopes and dreams across the galaxy with your steadily systematic lack of lived-up-to potential.

For those of you who have yet to play this epic let down, let me sum it up for you. You spend the game traveling back and forth through physically-challenged space to the same “different” planets with all the same plants and rocks over and over again, staring at the same ten options for spaceships(that you can’t even name) that you have to spend most of your time farming units to achieve, IF you don’t finish the game accidentally before hand. What? finish the game? OHHH you BELIEVED that load of happy horseshit the creator proudly boasted about prior to the release? You poor, poor thing. Newsflash, 90% of the awesomeness promised to us by Mr. Nublet Casserole himself, Gareth Bourn, DIDN’T HAPPEN. Oh, and the great big mysterious ending? You’re just reborn into a “new” recycled universe, essentially starting the game all over again, without any of the cool shit you scrubbed about so hard for. GOD IT IS SO INFURIATING, and so very disappointing. Here it is, the game that was supposed to CHANGE the game, opening us up to a whole new realm of sci-fi survival fun; and all we got is misshapen Minecraft in space.

The update did NOT make revolutionary waves, and even though they did add a pretty hefty amount of new stuff; somehow, some of the old stuff disappeared. People are complaining that since updating, they’ve landed on planets with nothing on them. No weird grab-bag animals, and none of the same plants and minerals found on every other planet. Dafuq? They added freighters! That’s cool I guess, if you want to spend several million units on an even bigger ship that you don’t even get to pilot. The craziest part is, they’re supposed to make storing your excess materials easier, when in reality, you have to jump through hoops and at least 3 checkpoints just to get to the ship and transfer items. Doesn’t seem easier to me.

The coolest thing they’ve added is the base building option, which allows you to build a single base, on a single planet to help store your crap and farm rare materials. You can teleport to it, but only from a space station. When I first loaded up Creative Mode, it seemed simple and easy enough to use. Until I tried to build a second story to my base and found that the ladders don’t even work. I mean they do, but only if you do the math to find the exact angle at which you need to stand to place them, BECAUSE THEY DON’T EVEN FUCKING ROTATE. You get 10 storage containers, with 5 slots each. That might seem awesome, until you realise all materials that aren’t common don’t even stack. What an asshole move. Here I am, hauling FIVE GODDAMN GRAVITINO BALLS AT A TIME back and forth to my freighter, taking 15 minute trips just to transfer my farming loot, all because you want these items to seem ‘special’ and more than just a pile of units. guh.

Now, Hello has stated that this is literally, a foundation update, paving the way for ‘much bigger and better things’. Yeah, we’ll see. Fool me twice… I would have rated this game, if I wasn’t busy trying to figure out why the fuck the planets don’t orbit their stars properly.
